Mandate

Erisian Institute exists to transform how futures are imagined, contested, and shaped.

We connect those who generate insight, those who exercise decision-making power, and those who live with the consequences. Through independent spaces for intellectual challenge, collaboration, and experimentation, we bring competing worldviews into contact, expand who participates in defining the questions, and catalyze action toward futures that would otherwise remain unexplored.

Today, the production of knowledge, the exercise of decision-making power, and the experience of decisions’ consequences are largely disconnected. Dominant narratives go unchallenged, alternative futures remain outside institutional consideration, and many of those affected by consequential decisions have little influence over the assumptions informing them.

Erisian Institute exists to challenge that separation.

1

Convening across difference.

Bringing together competing worldviews, epistemologies, institutions, and actors that would otherwise remain disconnected. Not to manufacture consensus, but to expose assumptions, interrogate differences, and generate new understanding.

2

Catalyzing consequential action.

Moving beyond dialogue into co-creation, experimentation, collaboration, and interventions that can materially alter institutional decisions and trajectories.

3

Expanding participation and intelligence.

Connecting what happens inside institutional decision-making environments to a much wider world of perspectives, knowledge, and lived experience. The shared Fault Lines publication and its public challenge mechanism are one expression of this.

1

Plurality of knowledge.

No single institution, geography, discipline, ideology, or epistemology should monopolize how the future is understood.

2

Plurality of agency.

Those affected by consequential decisions should have meaningful opportunities to shape the questions, agendas, and possibilities under consideration, not merely respond to decisions already framed by others.

3

Consequence over performance.

The objective is not dialogue for its own sake. It is to catalyze relationships, experiments, collaborations, and actions capable of changing trajectories.
